Description Daniel Andre Eikeland 2008-07-08 10:47:54 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

I'm using two monitors (laptop+19" external) on a t61 laptop, with kwin hardware accel turned on (xrender). whenever I switch desktops, with focus on one screen, there are artifacts appearing around windows - typically 50px outside the windows - on the other screen. When I click on that screen, the artifacts disappear.

This is a screenshot showing how the artifacts appear around areas on the
screen after switching desktops.

What effects to you have enabled?
Does it also happen in OpenGL mode (If possible)?
Try slowly disabling the effects one-by-one until the problem disappears.

There are known problems with X/drivers when using compositing with multiple monitors. Unless you can reproduce the same problem with just a single screen (which I can't, not even with two), then I'm afraid there is nothing that we could do in KDE about this.
Comment 4 Daniel Andre Eikeland 2008-07-08 15:10:09 UTC
How come it doesn't happen when I'm using compiz+gnome if it is related to X?
I'm trying to follow the suggestion in comment #2, but no luck so far ...
Comment 5 Daniel Andre Eikeland 2008-07-09 12:11:10 UTC
I did what was suggested in comment #2, and I can reproduce it down the exact plugin - "blur". Unchecking the "blur" plugin makes the error go away, checking it again instantly reintroduces the issue.
