I don't know if this is worth a bug report really, not sure what we can do here. Apps should not crash, that's it. You issue lots of bugs reports that we have to process, you ask a question in bug 164171 then you issue this report...

Say KApp crashes because of sound, does it restart after? No.

What matters is to fix crashes, not to fix behavior when crashes. Closing this as irrelevant.
Comment 2 Pascal d'Hermilly 2008-06-15 22:35:04 UTC
The regular KApp doesn't take away your taskbar. Plasma does. It would make sense to load plasma again. Just like it does when it chrashes because of some internal error.

If it is possible to lessen the impact of a chrash on the user, then I think it should be done. I hope you will reopen.

Best regards
Pascal

Anne-Marie you're right that crashes should be fixed, but important desktop components - like kwin, kded and also plasma - need to automatically restart when they crash. And AFAIK implementing this isn't a big deal, as plasma itself is also "just an application".

it certainly does restart. trust me, i crash plasma *all* the time ;)

what we don't do is restart if you crash it once, then crash it again immediately .. this is to prevent a bad configuration from crash-restart bombing your machine.

I'm trusting you there, I just re-opened because the reasoning for closing it was completely invalid :)

And btw, thats a really nice solution.
