Description erik_hahn 2008-05-25 15:18:02 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 4.2.3
OS: Linux

The "Add Widgets" dialog offers to install new widgets. But after you've done so, there is no way to get rid of them again. There should be some interdace to uninstall widgets as well.
Comment 1 Anne-Marie Mahfouf 2008-05-29 08:12:26 UTC
The - (minus) sign on the right of the applets is now back in trunk so I guess this closes this bug report. Clicking on it removes all instances of the widget. You can also use the x (cross) to remove each widget separately.

I guess that closes that wish report.
Comment 2 FiNeX 2008-05-29 09:52:11 UTC
I'm not agree Anne-Marie: when you click on the "minus" sign, the widget is removed from containments, but is not removed from the list.
On the add-widgets dialog there is an "install" button which let you install widgets from internet/files, but you cannot remove then.
Comment 3 Anne-Marie Mahfouf 2008-05-29 10:25:39 UTC
The "Install New Widgets" "Download from Internet" dialog does not show for me so I don't know about it. Does it work for you?

Comment 4 FiNeX 2008-05-29 11:08:02 UTC
Actually the internet installation does nothing, but you can add to the list a superkaramba widget for example.
Comment 5 Ferdinand Gassauer 2008-08-05 07:10:11 UTC
IMHO a big usability issue
there is a "remove panel" but nor "remove widget"

IMHO either call the "Add Widgets" button "Add and Remove Widgets"
or create a "Remove Widgets" button which only shows the available widgets to remove.

This recalls "press start button to stop engine ..."

> IMHO a big usability issue

half the battle of planning a project is being able to prioritize issues realistically. every feature or bug is a big deal to someone, but this is hardly a Big Issue. still something quite working fixing, of course, and certainly ahead in the queue of some other items =)

> there is a "remove panel" but nor "remove widget"

"remove panel" removes that instance of a panel, it doesn't remove the ability to create panels. so this comparison is a bit off =)

> "Add and Remove Widgets"

this is the most likely route we'll take ..

> This recalls "press start button to stop engine ..."

hehe.. now you're just using random examples ;)

Comment 14 LXj 2009-07-12 12:26:41 UTC
Yes, there definitely needs to be a way of unistalling scripted plasmoids, Mac OS widgets, Superkaramba widgets etc which user doesn't want to have anymore.
Comment 15 Lukas 2009-09-17 22:32:35 UTC
Exporting them would be a nice option too, especially when you a moving to new PC and just want to take your (custom) plasmoids with you.
Comment 16 FiNeX 2009-09-18 00:04:50 UTC
The "add widget" dialog has been removed in favour of the new widget explorer.

@Ljx, @Lukas: please open separate wishes for your ideas.

This bug is no more valid: on the current implementation is not possible to install extra widget. Thanks.

I don't understand the last comment...
It is still possible to install new plasmoids (or google gadgets) and not to uninstall them (i.e. an UI for 'plasmapkg --remove').
At least it is still true in KDE 4.3.2 Mandriva.

Concerning LXj's request: it was exactly the one in the topic of this issue (and all its numerous duplicates). So why a different issue?

Please reopen this bug, or write the version number in which it is fixed!
Comment 18 Vinicius Tinoco 2010-01-08 17:26:15 UTC
I did not understand the solution given.

Instead of including a function of removal of widgets, they remove the button to insert, hindering the installation of new!
Comment 19 Aaron J. Seigo 2010-01-09 00:04:48 UTC
apparently it is very difficult for people to get accurate information here.

in 4.4, there is a "Get New Widgets" button in the Add Widgets interface, just as there used to be (well, it's prettier now and in a different location, but same functionality after that :)

if you mouse over a widget that you installed, the informational popup contains an uninstall button which you can click on.

so there has been no regression in functionality, and there is now the new functionality of being able to easily uninstall widgets too. enjoy.
