Description karl sebastian liebich 2008-04-10 13:36:51 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
Compiler: Target: x86_64-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.24-15-generic

Neither Kmail nor Amarok are shown in the tray. I also tried Grip but nothing is shown.
Additionally: It is not possible to move the place of the widgets in the Taskbar, that's not good.

greetings
karl

Interesting: The Systray put on the "Desktop" becomes wider when apps are started, which are normally shown in the tray. Not so in the Panel.

Karl, could you try to use a "clean" home directory?

About the possibility to move the widget on the taskbar I suggest to open a new report (wish) about it.

Thanks!

I have the same issue - I have tried rebuilding kde from svm clean three times using the qt 4.4.0rc in the debian repos, compiling the one from the trolltech site, and now I am trying from the qt-copy.

The background is white for the system tray as well. I have no desktop effects enabled and no plasma theme (besides default) chosen.

Also, until this is fixed, is there a way to access something in the system stray?

I can't pull kontact out of it nor kmix.

Thanks for any help

david: if you're using trunk svn, half of plasma is currently broken and in the process of being fixed. try last week's code.

as for those of you using packages... it *should* kinda mostly work (especially kmail - every time my systray breaks, getting the kmail icon to run unbreaks it). huh :/

i had a similar problem. it seemed the plasma-appletsrc somehow got a second containment entry with plugin=desktop. i just made a backup of the file, removed the second entry, kill and restarted plasma. that seemed to do the trick.

perhaps create an additional user account, log into kde4, and copy the 'stock' plasma-appletsrc file to you home dir and see if that helps.

Brian, I have rm my whole .kde directory a couple of times.

Chani, that information helps. I am also having other plasma problems (such as when I log in the plasmoids are all bunched together on the panel - killing and restarting plasma fixes that to an acceptable level.)

I am using standalone tray until this this is resolved. Thanks for the feedback. (By the way, this problem aside, Kde 4.1 looks like it is going to be a great release!)

4.0.3 systray works fine on Gentoo here. I would blame (K)Ubuntu
Comment 9 David Broome 2008-04-25 05:34:10 UTC
I would blame gentoo for using older snapshots.

I don't use KUbuntu.

I am using Debian but have qt compiled from daily svn and kde compiled from latest svn (well what would update - look at the dashboard)

Kyle, you might read note 5 on this report.

Aslo, similair (if not the same - http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161069)
Comment 10 David Broome 2008-04-25 23:58:20 UTC
Apolgies, as Kyle pointed out to me, this is against 4.0.3 not svn.

My comments are worthless towards this bug

This problem was likely during the attempt to use QGraphicsProxyWidget with QX11EmbedContainer. If this is still an issue, please reopen.
