Description Sander Bouwhuis 2008-03-02 17:18:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I love plasma, and I love filling my desktop space with useful and useless widgets :) However, I'm also very fond of my collection of background images, so I was thinking that it would be cool if plasma could have an overall translucency setting which applies to all its widgets!

maybe you could use a more transparent theme like http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Slim+Glow+(Plasma+Theme)?content=74329
i don't think making the entire applet semi-transparent would make much sense, the text wouldn't be very readable

As the theme controls transparency through SVG's, afaik it is technically near impossible to influence transparency independend of theme. Unless someone steps up and finds a non-hacky way to solve this *(very unlikely, I'd say)* don't count on this to ever happen. The fact Plasma has SVG theme support is already 10 years beyond any competing widget system, isn't it enough?

I might be missing something, but... QGraphicsItem::setOpacity?!?

According to the discussion here
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165795
this is a WONTFIX too.
