Description Heinz Kohl 2008-02-15 12:10:46 UTC
Version: quanta 3.5.7 Linux(i686) 2.6.22.17-0.1-default Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux (using KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

After a longer time of using quanta, the .kde/share/config/quantarc file is growing, perhaps because of the growing list of autosaved files repeating the same entries, till quanta is hanging at program start; the quantarc was then 558KB or respective 284KB long.

Sorry - but it was my first start of Quanta in SuSE10.3, which was giving this failure.
In bad luck it's possible, that this error situation is caming up as a relic of a corrected error.
When I looked up my .kde/share/config files, I was seeing an old defect copy of quantarc from march 2007, which I renamed to quantarcKO - the described effect is a very old one.
On the other side, it was needing nearly a year of using quanta to set up this overflow situation.

Just to give an impression, a little extract from my quantarc file:
List of autosaved files=$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,
$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,$HOME/.kde/share/apps/quanta/backups/outpico.xml.2805P6592,

To go on with quanta it is necessary to kill or rename the quantarc file.

It looks very musch the same bug as in bug# 111049. Although that one is closed, it seems that the bug is back. I can confirm it occurs in Quanta 3.5.5. Running Debian Lenny KDE 3.5.5 kernel 2.6.18.

The workaround is to remove all the duplicates before starting Quanta, but when the file is really large it is hard to do in an editor. Proceed to ~/.kde/share config and then issue these commands:

sed -i s/"List of backedup files=.*"/"List of backedup files=\n"/ quantarc
sed -i s/"List of autosaved files=.*"/"List of autosaved files=\n"/ quantarc

reproduces the bug for me
Comment 3 Martin Vogt 2009-04-24 17:41:16 UTC
Hello

I have a similar bug with quanta 3.5.10 on SuSE 11.1.
See my attchement above, a quantarc which reproduces the problem.

regards,

Martin

Dear users,

the Quanta application ceased to exist over 5 years ago. For some of the use cases of Quanta there are nowadays KDevPlatform plugins available (like PHP/Python/... language support plugins).

Therefore the old Quanta bugs will now be closed, the Quanta bugzilla product is already closed for new reports.

Greetings
Christoph
