Description FACORAT Fabrice 2007-02-02 19:07:35 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
OS: Linux

now digikam is using kde media manager in order to be launched on a digital camera plug.
However the desktop files are not translated in french and others languages.
The concerned desktop files are :
/usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/digikam-download.desktop
/usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/digikam-gphoto2-camera.desktop
/usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/digikam-mount-and-download.desktop

On top of that, the wording of some sentences are too complicated or may confused users. This is especially true when plugging an USB mass storage camera ( digikam-mount-and-download.desktop ), the sentence is : digiKam Mount and Download

IMHO this sentence suppose severals things :
- that the user know that digikam is an application to import photo
- that the user know the meaning of mount ( in linux way )

However the user want to download photos from the camera, so IMHO the sentence should be rephrase as : "Download photos from the camera with digikam" or "Import photos from my camera with digikam"

Please note that I kept the digikam part, because kde could propose to do it with severals applications, and so this is a way to differentiate.

The same remark could be applied also for PTP camera ( digikam-gphoto2-camera.desktop ). Indeed "digiKam Detect and Download" is confusing :
- detect what ?
- download what ?
- what is digikam ?

Again the user want to import his photo, and for him as an actions is proposed when the camera is plugged, for him the detection is already done. So we should just reuse "Download photos from the camera with digikam" or "Import photos from my camera with digikam" or "Import photos with digikam"

still valid

Fabrice,

You talking with developpers in this room, not translators (:=))). Perhaps it better to contact i18n team...

Fix for english strings as described by Fabrice; German translation

Hi Fabrice,

do you have an SVN account, to commit your translations? If so, you could
simply checkout trunk/extragear/graphics/digikam/utilities and add your
translations to these files.

I am attaching a patch that incorporates your suggested string changes and a
German translation. Can somebody please commit this?

Thanks,
Frank

I will do that after 0.9.1 release. Right now we have a string freeze.

Hey guy,

You don't need to touch the desktop file from source code to translate messages. A KDE script extract the strings reguliary to provide a desktop.pot template file to translate with KBabel...

Do not touch of desktop file directly. A reverse scriot will introduce your translations when you commit the translated .po file in svn...

Comment 7 FACORAT Fabrice 2007-03-18 21:38:34 UTC
This is fixed, but télécharger have a minus t instead of having a major one ( T )
Comment 8 Fabien 2007-03-20 18:46:42 UTC
I can't find it. Where it is ?
Note: the small latest changes I made in the po files were not added in the release (too late).

I just attached the latest version...
I plan to make fixes on it until next stable release.

french translation for digiKam 0.9.1 (up to date)

This is the latest french translation file for digikam 0.9.1 (stable release).
To compile it :
msgfmt -o digikam.mo digikam.po

and put the new file in the right path
($KDEDIR.../share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES).

Hope this helps !

Re-open. The .desktop.in files must by translated using the .pot files by translators.

I'm using 0.9.1 on kde 3.5.7. I recently added the dutch language pack in kubuntu and then changed back again to british english. A lot of the strings in digikam are still in dutch. Configuration problem or a bug?

Cheers

Simon
Comment 13 Fabien 2007-05-31 18:01:49 UTC
for Simon (#12) : this is not a bug in digiKam. I guess you still have environment variables defined for dutch.
Open a terminal and echo $LANG ; echo $LANGUAGE
You'll see what you get

For standard english, it should be :
en_US.UTF-8
en_CH:en
Comment 14 Simon Oosthoek 2007-05-31 18:05:13 UTC
$ echo $LANG ; echo $LANGUAGE
en_GB.UTF-8
en_GB:en

This is my output, so I guess my problem is something else?

tnx for the check!

Hi i18n team...

The subject of this file is about the desktop.in files from digiKam witch are not parsed by i18n export script... Files are here:

KDE3: http://websvn.kde.org/branches/extragear/kde3/graphics/digikam/utilities/hotplug

KDE4: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/graphics/digikam/utilities/hotplug

Somebody can fix the script ?

Comment 18 Marek Laane 2007-12-04 01:34:22 UTC
Pino or Laurent should be know how to fix message extraction...
Comment 19 Pino Toscano 2007-12-04 02:09:47 UTC
Scripty does not know about `.desktop.in' files. But it can be properly taught about those.
I've done that, and hopefully tomorrow (or in two days) the desktop_extragear-graphics_digikam.po in l10n-kde3 should have (at least) three new messages.
(Work done for KDE 4 as well, in case you are wondering.)
Comment 20 Pino Toscano 2007-12-04 10:25:31 UTC
Ok, verified that scripty extracted correctly the strings coming from .desktop.in (or .desktop.cmake) files in digikam.
Comment 21 caulier.gilles 2007-12-04 10:39:12 UTC
Thanks Pino for this fix.

This is want mean than KDE3 branch will follow this way too or only KDE4 ?

Gilles
Comment 22 Pino Toscano 2007-12-04 10:42:46 UTC
Yep, both l10n-kde3 (the upcoming digikam version, AFAIK) and l10n-kde4 were fixed.
Comment 23 caulier.gilles 2007-12-04 10:44:46 UTC
Excelent !

Thanks a lots...
