Description kaplun 2006-09-11 11:56:35 UTC
Version: 0.12.2 (using KDE 3.5.4, Gentoo)
Compiler: Target: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.17-beyond3

With any version of Kopete with MSN plugin, receiving a file is very very very slow. Anyway I can receive the file.
Could it be this a strange firewall problem or a msn protocol one?
Comment 1 Philip Rodrigues 2006-09-12 15:40:23 UTC
Try with another MSN client (say, gaim). Is file transfer also slow with the other client?
Comment 2 Giacomo Lozito 2006-10-01 15:54:35 UTC
I can confirm this problem.
Kopete 0.12.2, KDE 3.5.4, both compiled from sources (Slackware linux, i686).
Gaim doesn't show this problem. Sure, file sending is still slow with other msn clients (that's due to msn server acting as a bottleneck), but Kopete file transfer is terribly slow, almost unusable.

Anyone working on this issue?
Let me know if I can help to debug it.

Is it me or is it true we're all (or nearly all) Italians having this problem? Maybe is a configuration problem among our Country isps?
Comment 6 Giorgio 2006-12-04 11:22:06 UTC
No, it isn't.. using other clients like aMSN or Gaim it seems to be ok..

I live in sweden, same problem. I get 5 kB/s or less. Large files stagnate after a certain percentage. Small files ( less than 500 kB)are at least possible to transfer, but the larger the more likely to freeze completely.
Comment 8 Michaël Larouche 2006-12-04 14:37:52 UTC
Receiving and sending files in MSN plugin is slow because direct transfers are not implemented. It pass though Microsoft servers (aka Switchboard servers) so the transfer are not optimal.

Adding support for direct transfer in Kopete 0.12 would require refactoring on the handling of P2P context in current MSN plugin.

This is planned that I implement direct transfers in new Messenger plugin in Kopete 1.0 and later.
