Description EliotBlennerhassett 2006-08-18 05:21:35 UTC
Version: 1.1 (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "b" , SUSE 9.3)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.4-21.13-smp

When Kontact/Kmail displays multipart messages, it shows the message structure in a separate pane below the message content pane, which now shows the contents of a selected part.

1) Select a multipart message

2) resize the message structure pane so that the message content pane height is zero. The message structure pane is large.

There are 2 horizontal sash bars with nothing between. This is OK you could pull them apart to show the message content again.

3) (with no content showing)
select a message that is not multipart, the content pane remains invisible, but now there is only one sash bar which just resizes the message list.

4) To fix this you have to select a multipart message, then resize the content pane to height > 0

If the content pane is at all visible, it resizes automatically when selecting non-multipart message.

Confirmed on SVN post-3.5 (might be r565140, I'm not sure)

I confirm this issue.

Suse 9.3

kdepim 3.4.0-15

Linux 2.6.11.4-21.13-default #1 Mon Jul 17 09:21:59 UTC 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Another symptom that "Help" -> "About" -> "Kmail" doesn't display any information. The screen is blank, like in the message case.

A workaround to solve this.

Go to "options" ->"Configure kmail" -> "Appearance" -> "Layout"

Check this options:

-Don't show Message Preview Pane.
-Don't show Message Structure Viewer

Then, push "apply".

Now you can revert options to the original state:

-Show Message Preview Pane.
-Show Message Structure Viewer for only for non-plaintext messages

Now kmail works fine!

One theory: if this issue happens only in Suse, maybe would it be related with some recent YOU update?

As 'root':

# grep kde var/lib/YaST2/you/youlog

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
