Description Clinton 2006-02-04 01:35:34 UTC
Version: 1.5 Beta (using KDE KDE 3.5.0KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu PackagesUbuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Whenever KWord tries to render text in a document (either alone or in the KOffice Shell), it covers each letter with a mishmash of coloured lines. I've posted a screenshot at http://clintonthegeek.com/files/snapshot1.png.

It does this regardless of the font selected or size, and happens with both old documents and new ones.

I use Fluxbox on this computer (old hunk o' junk), and originally installed Kubuntu as a "server" (nothing but the base OS), and used apt-get to manually install Xorg Fluxbox, the KDE libraries, Konqueror, KOffice, etc. I used the official Kubuntu KOffice 1.5 Beta repository available on the site to upgrade KOffice 1.4.1 to 1.5 Beta. I never had this problem in KOffice 1.4.1

Known bug (see [Bug 121270] Red and blue lines between characters)
(only happens when compiling with --enable-final), already fixed in subversion,
please download an updated package as soon as there is one. Sorry for the blooper.
Comment 3 David Faure 2006-02-04 01:57:27 UTC
You can also apply http://kdab.net/~dfaure/kotext-enable-final.diff to koffice/lib/kotext and rebuild.
