The file shows fine here (KPDF from KDE 3.5 r477777).

Ok, so the problem comes from the distribution I use : kubuntu breezy.
I get the same behaviour on two computers (mine at home and my worstation at work) both using kubuntu.

Basically it is [k]ubuntu's fault in shipping a sucky version of freetype yes, i'm closing this bug as duplicated of 117303 as visible output is not the same but cause it is, problem with freetype version. Please if you are able to update to dapper do and reopen if the bug is not solved

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 117303 ***

Ok thank you :)
I'm not going to update to dapper until it gets released.
But when I do, i'll check again for this bug :)
