Version: 3.4.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, Debian Package 4:3.4.1-1 (3.1)) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-kanotix-7 KMail and the icon dialogue have a great filter search bar to locate mails/icons which contain a given letter sequence. It would be great if the konqueror filemanager would have a similar finder (option to display) so I can filter out all files and folders in the current directory that contain a special letter sequence. Would make things much easier to find :)
I agree. my folders are a mess :) being able to search them would be nice
I'm very puzzled - this feature exists! Why is there no "official" way to activate it (kcontrol or konqueror settings) so that every user can find it? Look at http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=22720
I'm using KDE 3.5.1 with Kubuntu and the dirfilter bar is available for adding in the left-hand pane when I click on configure toolbars. Dont know if this is the distro or KDE though. I think this feature is still hidden, because it contains some awful bugs at the moment. Nevertheless, I think it's extremely useful already. YMMV though. Can this specific bug be closed then?

Any progress on this? I can't figure out how to enable this in the mainToolBar by editing the .rc files. *sigh*
use konqueror quick filter: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22720 run this: tar -jxvf 22720-konq_quickfilter.tar.bz2 -C ~/.kde and restart KDE session. The location bar automatically resizes.
Install kdeaddons, and then enable the dir filter as follows: 1. Open konqueror in File Management mode 2. Settings->Configure Toolbars 3. Choose "Filter Toolbar <DirFilter>" 4. Add the "filter field" and "clear filter field" items to the menu. I think this is too complicated, but the functionality *is* available in the KDE main modules.
Thanks Philip for pointing this out. I haven't noticed that there's a special filter toolbar available because it is not listed under Settings - Toolbars. Maybe that's the point that would help: 1. adding the filter toolbar to the toolbars list by default 2. having at least the filter field in the filter toolbar by default so that the user sees the feature is available (1) and can turn it on/off as any other toolbar. Remains the question how shall the user know that he/she has to install kdeaddons to get that feature? Maybe list the filter toolbar under Settings and when the user wants to enable it and kdeaddons isn't installed a message pops up that kdeaddons is missing...

Well, shouldn't this be closed? It still is a little complicated to activate in KDE4 because it doesn't contain entries by default and it's not activated by default when konqueror is in filemanager mode and it cannot be used only in filemanager mode but that's IMHO something different (Bug 191974).
