Description Janet 2009-05-07 23:26:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When I use konqueror as filemanager it still shows the internet search box in the toolbar. The expected behaviour: it should show the filter box instead (which is available in the toolbar configuration but never shown).
Comment 1 Janet 2009-05-08 00:22:36 UTC
To make it clear: "Never shown" isn't that right. It isn't shown *automatically* when switching the profile. I can enable the filter bar in konqueror filemanager without that it is enabled in konqueror webbrowser but when I disable the search bar in filemanager mode it also gets removed in webbrowser mode. It just should be one or the other: webbrowser = search bar, filemanager = filter bar. I hardly dare to say "like it was in KDE3".

In all honesty, I kind of like it as it is. Sure, there's no GUI to activate the dirfilter, but I'm not stuck with the search bar as an irritating side-effect of the dirfilter. (I use web shortcuts like gg: in both Firefox and Konqueror for web work with the search box disabled but I do want dirfilter in file browser mode)

Sorry for asking but I've been searching for a while with no success. Reading you Janet, I understand that there is a way, with konqueror as it is today, to filter directory content according to any regexp like it was in kde3. Is that right ?
I disabled the search bar extension (like Stephan I don't care about it) but couldn't get the filter box to be shown. Can you point me the steps to achieve this.
Thanks

@Denis: You need to be in filemanager mode! Rightclick on any konqueror toolbar, choose to configure toolbars. In the drop down list choose the filter toolbar <DirFilter>. Maybe you need to drag the content from the left pane into the right (the filter button and field). Close the dialog and you have your filter back. It is shown right beside the search field which you can leave there or disable completely. HTH :)

Thanks Janet, it works ! (I had to remove my .kde/share/apps/konqueror directory, there was something wrong with it that broke my filemanager profile, preventing it from showing the filter toolbar <dirfilter> in the toolbar dropdown list).
