Description John Bester 2005-07-11 15:34:42 UTC
Version: 3.4.0 (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "b" , SUSE 9.3)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11.4-21.7-default

After a windows (wine) program was installed, the panels were all resized (width). Two scrolling arrows arrows appeared to scroll the task bar. The more I tried to resize the different panels to the way it used to be, the more it seemed to get out of hand. I could find no way to set the size of individual panels. The problem kept on escalating until the taskbar is now just a white bar with no icons (it used to be transparent). Also, the resizing buttons have disappeared and only the hide button remains.

> After a windows (wine) program was installed

the summary says after installing KBear (which is a KDE program). so was it after installing KBear or a windows program through wine?

> I could find no way to set the size of individual panels

in the Panels control panel, or by right clicking on the panel and selecting Configure Panel

can you please attach a screenshot of the problem? also please attach your ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc file. this way i may be able to troubleshoot this problem.

My apologies - I thought at first it was the Wine installation when I started
the bug report, but then on the last page I had the option of changing the
short description so I did not restart the bug report.

I have narrowed down the problem. Included are three screen shots. The first
(kbear0.jpg) is where I set the KBearSiteManagerDaemon icon to be displayed
in the Kicker (the default is on). I found that the taskbar changed (see
kbear1.jpg). When I took off the check, the taskbar changed back (see
kbear2.jpg). I included the bottom section of the screen to show that there
are applications open, but they are not shown in the taskbar. Once I log off
and log back on, things are back to normal. For now the interim solution is
to uncheck the checkbox in the KBearSiteManagerDaemon setup. I included step
by step instructions if you want to list it in the bug request.

1. Open KBear
2. Select Sitemanager/KBear Sitemanager from the menu
3. Uncheck "Show system tray icon for database daemon"
4. Press "Close"

Kind regards
John Bester

ah yes, this is a known bug with kbear and AFAIK has been fixed in later releases. the system tray will also handle these issues a bit better in 3.5. as it is this a dupe of another bug.. hm.. let me find it
