Version: KDE Daemon: $Id: kded.cpp,v 1.102 2005/01/21 15:36:26 waba Exp $ (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux When a dvd (data or movie) is inserted, kded crashes, and a "crash"-window appears. As long as the dvd is in machine, this goes on and on. Everything else works (data cd, audiocd, usb-media, removable disks). I have Kubuntu 5.04 installed on a Powerbook G4. This abstraction layer is simply an interface that makes it possible to add support for new devices and new ways of connecting devices to the computer, without modifying every application that uses the device. It maintains a list of devices that currently exist, and can provide information about those upon request. Conceptually, it fits somewhere in between raw sockets and CORBA in terms of complexity. . D-BUS supports broadcast messages, asynchronous messages (thus decreasing latency), authentication, and more. It is designed to be low-overhead; messages are sent using a binary protocol, not using XML. D-BUS also supports a method call mapping for its messages, but it is not required; this makes using the system quite simple. . D-BUS is still under heavy development, but is expected to be widely used. It comes with several interfaces, including GLib. See the description of dbus-glib-1 for more information about those. Do you have a backtrace of the crash?
There are several users reporting this kind of problem and it looks like hal is the responsible. You can have a look at this thread and you will know how to solve it: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2005/04/msg00323.html
Brre, can you reproduce this problem with KDE 3.5?

My powerbook broke down, I'll test this as soon as it is repaired.
