Description pierre 2005-02-22 18:39:21 UTC
Version: inconnu (using KDE 3.3.92 (beta2) Level "a" , SUSE 9.2 UNSUPPORTED)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.145-default

Hi

I'm currently using KDE 3.4 CVS (compiled today by the suse team), and I enabled composite and renderaccel in my xorg.conf in order to be able to use kompmgr.
But when I use kompmgr, if I click on the "read" button in the baloon which appear when a contact writes something, then X crashes !!
I know that it is not directly a kopete bug, but I think that you should try to do something because yet kompmgr is provided with KDE so more and more people could see that bug...

Thanks for reading me ! :)

There's a reason that both the Composite extension and kompmgr are marked as experimental, and have to be explicitly enabled. And if X crashes, then it's X bug, please report the problem to them.

Try to start
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 kopete
and please drop me a mail if it fixes the problem
Comment 3 pierre 2005-03-04 19:38:12 UTC
No, it doesn't work too :(
Comment 4 Thomas Lübking 2005-03-05 13:36:32 UTC
just to make sure you passed the proper string:
kopete should no more go translucent on this call
Comment 5 pierre 2005-03-05 13:51:09 UTC
I continue being translucent on this call :/
Comment 6 Thomas Lübking 2005-03-05 16:02:34 UTC
sorry, only gtk1 apps stop falling translucent with this setting.
i just hoped it'd work, as it fixes X crashes caused by qt-designer

what exactly would happen if you click the read button and what kind of balloon is that?
(you may mail me some screenshots :), valid mail address from baghira.sf.net)

does the crash only occur if you run kompmgr or also if just the Composite extension is enabled? (try "dcop kwin default stopKompmgr" - don't kill the process)
Comment 7 pierre 2005-03-05 16:10:09 UTC
If I click the read button, the chat window should appear allowing me to ... chat :)

If kompmgr is not running (but Composite is enabled), it works (sorry, it rocks :)

I also have this problem. I tried to disable the baloon on new messages but it's still crashing when I click on the Kopete "logo" in the panel to see the message (normaly, it opens a chat window).

This problem seems to occur only with Kopete...

I disabled the message queue feature, and managed to get by this bug, and kopete is still usable.
