Don't trust wontfixes ;-) Sorry for the lengthy report -- the preset is already there, as I wished, inactive. The preset isn't shipped with Konsole. I have made clear why there is no preset and so far most people have supported my reasoning.

No - if we took this approach we would accumulate an awful lot of unsupportable cruft over time. Obviously the decision to remove a 'feature' (or 'bug' even) that was in a previous version has to be taken carefully because it will undoubtedly impact some users - however it is necessary to maintain the quality of the software.

You mean in the other report?
If yes, I didn't see compelling reasoning and even single "good idea" (rather "well, pity, ok" agreement). To keep comment short -- adding it as hidden preset (not present in the menu by default) would save time for all users by one decision, and on the other hand will get this item from the menu, if you dislike it so much.
And about discouraging people from using it -- you don't know the workflow. Using it instead of sudo is already more tiresome, but running sudo in a sequence for several commands is less comfortable than root shell. So, as usual, don't judge what users should do in order to get _their_ job done.
And there is also one advantage of the root shell for now -- easy visual difference between root shell and regular shell. Not the case for sudo.
PS. Anyway, help (I mean "manual") with info about creating root shell would be welcome for those who don't have this preset. > And there is also one advantage of the root shell for now -- easy visual

Generally speaking, I find it more reliable to accomplish this by wrapping su/sudo with user binaries.
(I don't use "root shells" as such. When I run 'su', konsole switches color schemes, the "real" su asks for a password... and when I exit the su shell, konsole switches back to the normal color scheme.)
kionsole is an important app but looks to me like all the features of kde3 konsole are not going to happen :( . I cannot install kde4 if this is the way it will be. konsole ,konq filemanager mode, etc really disapointing |
