Version: 0.9.2 (using KDE KDE 3.3.2) Installed from: FreeBSD Ports OS: FreeBSD When the metacontact icon is used for individual contacts, you end up having two status icons showing for each contact: the metacontact icon on the left, then the service status icon on the right. You only need one or the other, but having both is pretty redundant.
OTOH it lets you see the metacontact's status at a glance without having to look at the protocol icon. If you want rid of it, you can use Detailed with Photos contact list style, then you will see photos instead. Metacontacts are always used in Kopete, even when they only contain one contact. I might add a miranda style view mode that never shows metacontact icons when 3.4 is out, but the basic view mode will always show metacontacts icons.
