kdm allows a slide show in the background, but that's not what i wish.

i wish an option to let kdm have its fixed background on startup as defined previously, but after a parametrable amount of minutes, instead of blanking to a black screen, it should start a kde screensaver, setup from a user or separately, whatever. then the kdm should appear again as soon as you move the mouse (would be pointless to lock screen over kdm, of course). this would make idle/remotely accessed boxes nicer to look at as you pass around.
