Description Iñaki Baz Castillo 2005-02-20 17:40:34 UTC
Version: 1.2.0pre2 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-8)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.7-ck6

I hope Gwenview will be the best image viewer for KDE, but at this time it loads the images slower than Kuickshow or Showimg (using the same quality), specially large images. And using Gwenview previewing in Konqueror is really slow loading, with small images too.
I like Gwenview because the usable options that it has, and because the good options printing like change the print size. I hope Gwenview to get the same speed loading and showimg images like others programs.

Good program any way.

This is strange. Gwenview is usually quite fast. Did you try disabling smooth scaling? This can make things quite faster.

Yes, I have tried with all the options. I'll try to explain better:
In Kuickshow (with "preload next image" activated) the image appears not inmediatly but in one time, it takes a short time to show the image but it appear in one instant. But in Gwenview it takes a longer time to show the entire image. First it loads the top of the image and then there appears the rest of the image, not all the image inmediatly. This is not nice viewing a collection of images.

In fact, I have checked the speed of Gwenview and Kuickshow comparing them with the Windows program ACDSee:
-Gwenview and Kuickshow in AMD Cpu 2200 MHz with 256 MB RAM (Debian Sid).
-ACDSee in Pentium Cpu 700 MHz with 64 MB RAM (Windows Millennium).
I have used the same images in both system, and ACDSee is really faster and running in a slower machine. Of course, I don't know the reason, and maybe it isn't problem of the image viewers.

Anyway, I think Gwenview is the best image viewer for KDE and I hope it to improve the speed. Good job.

It's rather pointless to compare "loading" speed of Kuickshow with preloading enabled with Gwenview which doesn't have this feature yet (although planned to have soon). And it also doesn't make much sense to compare with ACDSee running on a technically very different system.
Which means this is a) asking for the preloading feature, which is a duplicate, b) asking to make Gwenview even faster, which is way too generic and vague for Bugzilla.

Yes, you are right, I'm sorry.
I thought that Gwenview has already the "proloading next image" feature, mistake of mine. So I suppose it would be faster in the future with this feature included.
Thanks for your attention.
