Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1) Installed from: Mandrake RPMs OS: Linux I cannot Shift and move the arrows to multiple select messages. I have to use the shift key with the mouse to select multiple items. Not very user friendly. I believe this was logged a few times and marked "resolved." One of them is bug 84976. I am logging it again per instructions from Till and Andreas in problem 99665. Can someone please clarify that this is the way to do things, i.e. you cannot reopen a bug if it has been marked fixed but you still see the problem. You just log another one, right? Also, is there a way to see what version a problem has been fixed at?
Can not reproduce this on Kmail 1.2, KDE 3.5.1 on Kubuntu 5.10. Pressing the shift key and the left or right arrows (not up or down) select multiple messages, as it should be (see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84976 ).
Why is this "as it should be"? up/down arrow keys move between messages, so wouldn't it make more sense to have shift up/down for selecting multiple messages. I don't understand the logic here.
I second comment 1.
I find left and right arrow keys counter-intuitive, too. I would have never figured this out myself. Multi-select in KMail's folder pane, Thunderbird's + Evolution's message pane are done via shift+down; multi-row selection in spreadsheets is also done via shift+down. However, KMail's scrolling feature in the message preview pane via up/down arrows is really neat and you can't map both functions onto the same keys.
In kmail/KDE4 you can select with both: Shift + up/down or Shift + left/right.
