Description Jordi A. Cam 2005-02-19 02:02:12 UTC
Version: 1.7.2 (using KDE KDE 3.3.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

After fighting a long time for the HTML support in Kmail (composer branch) we've got it. But it only has a few features like font size, bold, underline, color, etc etc. I think it will be useful a FULL support of HTML in composing.
Thinking about the MS Outlook, It has the option to define MSWord as a Mail Writer. Why don't use Kwrite to become a little part of Kmail composer.
It can brings all the power of Kwrite HTML support in Kmail.
I think it's a good idea, isn't?

I second this. If migrating wasn't so incredibly hard (trying to get Evolution to work with maildirs or getting fetchmail/procmail to work) I would have (reluctantly) ditched kmail quite a while ago for this reason. Putting hyperlinks and embedding images in emails is essential for anyone who needs to package a lot of information in a readable form. Kmail/kontact is a wonderful tool in many ways, but without this feature it is going to look Stone Age pretty quickly now.

This and related bug 86423 are the main things that have kept me from switching to KMail. It gets my vote.

External editors are already supported in KMail.
For embedding other editors, like KWrite, directly into the composer window, there is bug 59481.
Closing as duplicate because of this. Please transfer your votes.

Bug 59481 is about embedding a text editor like VIM. That is not the same as improving HTML editor support, as neither VIM nor KWrite are WYSIWYG HTML editors.

Not only was that bug report old as the hills (it was opened in 2003 and this is 'duplicate report' is the first time anyone's touched it in over a year), but I agree with Rob Hasselbaum - improving WYSIWYG HTML editor support is different than embedding part of VIM or KWrite into it.

Well, OK, in this case, the subject of the bug report does not match the body.
The subjects talks about improving HTML support (this is pretty generic, there are tons of bug reports about what can be improved here).
The body text talks specifically about embedding KWrite, which is the same as bug 59481.

I used the body text as a basis for marking this bug as a duplicate.

Ah, hm, this IS confusing. I voted for this bug thinking of "Improved HTML support" meaning something like Thunderbird's composer (click button to insert image, bulleted list, etc) not editing raw HTML in Kwrite. The confusion is understandable, because of the extremely poor comparison made:

"Thinking about the MS Outlook, It has the option to define MSWord as a Mail Writer. Why don't use Kwrite to become a little part of Kmail composer."

MSWord is a "word processor", Kwrite is a "text editor". Completley different. Perhaps the author meant "KWord"? Anyway, I'm retracting my votes until the meaning of this wish is figured out. I was wishing for better rich-text and image insertion ability in the default mail composer, not using an external editor.
