Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.2) Installed from: Slackware Packages Compiler: gcc 3.3.4 OS: Linux Sometimes,when I run a new konsole application ,the new konsole freezes and it doesn't display the "fortune message" or the bash prompt,but a black window screen only with the menu above. I have a slackware 10.1 with the kernel 2.6.10 and udev ,found in the /test directory of the distribution. thank you for your attention, Angelo
"sometimes" is no good description, we need more. Did you try to remove the "fortune message" from your init script?

Did you try to remove the "fortune message" from your init script? > Hi Stephan, first of all, thank you for the fast reply, I didn't try to remove the "fortune message", but I found that my problem is usual to happen to slackware users with the 10.0/10.1 version of the O.S. using the the kernel 2.6.X and udev (version 050 in my case).Accordingly their opinion is that it is an UDEV problem , and they say the (ultimate) solution is using back devfs and 2.4.2X kernel (as in the standard slackware installaton). My opinion is not the same,because if I switch ,using ctrl+alt+F6,to a bash console, when I am using KDE , I gain a full working shell, so the problem is KDE related , not udev related. This is usually what happens when problems w/ PTY/ UDEV. Does xterm work?

I've added a check for PTY when Konsole starts up (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87481). I think that is that cause of this BR. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 87481 ***
