Description Pascal Niklaus 2005-02-01 11:30:38 UTC
Version: 1.7.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, compiled sources)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.111.19-default

This may be related to bug 81634, which referred to KMail 1.6.2 and is marked as resolved.

The phenomenon that the import of large mailboxes uses excessive memory is, however, still present.

I only succeeded in importing a 150MB mailbox by cutting it into chunks of 2000 messages first.
Memory usage exceeded 1.7GB (700MB in physical RAM and 1GB swap space) and totally locked the computer -- couln't even log-in by SSH, had to kill the X-Server.

Even then, physical memory use was very large (several 100 MBs)
