The image preview in open/save dialog should use the available space in the preview pane. It looks like only the embedded preview image is displayed.

Can you confirm that this is jpg specific (read doesn't happen for eg png)?

Personally I have seen this effect only with jpeg-images, but that may be due to the fact that almost all of my images are JPGs.
