Do you know WHICH program does the SIG 8 / SIGFPE?
Comment 3 Mark Koljack 2004-12-20 18:35:43 UTC
I'm sorry Christian, I don't and I don't know how to find that out either. Being new to Linux makes me feel stupid but I love it so much more than MS W XP. I'd rather feel stupid. Can you tell me how to find the info out? Thx. Mark

Well, lets start like this:
Why do you think KMix has a problem?
And one more question: What is "SimplyMepis"?
Comment 5 Laura Beyer 2004-12-22 13:14:10 UTC
Hi there,

Got a similar problem: KMix crashed and, as it's said there, "caused the signal 8 (SIGFPE)" Im an aboslute beginner..right. :)

Best regards,
Laura

Christian--I really don't think KMix has a problem. I believe my sound
card (SB Audigy 2 NX --external card/USB- is not the best choice for
Linux. To prove this, I enabled my system sound card and restarted
Linux. KMix and all KDE multi-media apps. ran fine. I would love to be
able to use my USB sound card, howeve, I just don't think it is going to
work. Thus, I believed the sound card and KMix do not get along.

Simply MEPIS is a Linux distro based on Debian, http://www.mepis.org.

Hi Laura--It's nice to know someone else out there is struggling. I
disabled the sound card having the problem and enabled my system card
and KMix and all KDE apps. run fine. The trouble is I really wanted to
use my USB external card. We'll see what the Bug people come up with.
Thanks for the email. Mark

Hi Mark,

Strugling it is for sure. But in my case, everything was working just fine until now.. and then it just crashed - all of a sudden. Now, when I try starting up Skype, for example, it claims that there is no sound device...go and figure.

Regards,
Laura

Laura--That sucks and I wish I could offer you some help. Even though
it is so frustrating, I do like Linux just because it is new and
different. Have a good day. Mark

Laura and Mark. Please specify the KMix version (as seen in the help menu -> abouk KMix).

I also need to know Laura, is your card an "SB Audigy 2 NX (USB external sound card)"?
Comment 11 Christian Esken 2004-12-28 13:05:52 UTC
I found the problem.
You are using KDE 3.2.3. There is a bug in the shipped KMix version.

Please see Bug #95877 for details.
