It would be much nicer if we could add a folder to the backgrounds slideshow recursively. Have it like the screensaver, where you can check the box to recursively add folders of images instead of having to add every folder seperately as you currently have to.

This is fixed in kde 4 trunk.

I confirm what premierSullivan said. I add that this feature probably won't be included in KDE3 because actually developers are working on the new KDE4. So I'm closing this as "worksforme" because it has been implemented on KDE4.
