Description m.wege 2004-11-23 23:16:28 UTC
Version: Unbekannt (using KDE 3.3.1, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-2)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-kanotix-5

I would like to have the contact-list window always to be as small as possible, means self adjusting in size, depending on how many contacts are online.

This suggestion is related to another wish, wish I also post: When the border is disabled it should be still possible to move the contact list via clicking just on empty space in the window.

The other wish I posted hast the linky: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93819

I believe both wishes together should make an nice, small and easy to use contact list, not taking so much space on the desktop.

What about the people whose contact lists have 500+ contacts in them? Would have to be an option.

RE moving the window, just hold ALT and drag the window, same as any X Windows app in KWin.

To quickly resize the contact list (or indeed any KWin-managed window), you
can hold down Alt (or whichever modifier you configure it to use) and drag
with the right mouse button.

I'm not convinced by this wish. Mark: I'd need a good, solid reason this is
better than just keeping your contact-list the height of your desktop before
I'd consider implementing it.

Sure I should be an option. I only have a small contact list and this makes very much sense. About moving the window: Great! I didn't know.
How about adding it to the "Tipp of the day?"

For me a good reason is: I would like to have the contact window as small as possible and not in the way. My monitor is not so big. I do not have many contacts, but still I use kopete regularily, so it is good to see who is always who is online. The small popups when someone goes online don't help with this, because thank god I am not all the time in front of my computer. A adition to that wish: The contact window should disapear, when no contact is online.

Please file a separate wish for the contact window disappearing. We'll probably do that on a delay or something similar if it gets implemented.

done. It can be found as http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93945

Mark - If you only have a few contacts you want ot keep track pof, maybe the KIMApplet in kdenonbeta would be better for you?

It is a kicker applet that shows all the people currently online, and their photos from KAddressBook.

See http://homepages.cs.ncl.ac.uk/william.stephenson/home.informal/images/imapplets_5.png for a screenshot.

I have looked at it. Seems an interessting approach, but it would cause problem if more then two if my ten contacts are online. There would not be enough space.

i'd also like this feature. at work i have to use a win box and i use miranda there which has this feature (optional) and i really like it.

This is implemented in trunk
