Description Nicolas Girard 2004-11-18 11:13:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.1)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
OS: Linux

This is a very irritating bug...

When you copy contents from an app, than when you close this app, the contents of the clipboard is cleared !

AFAIK you can experience this with any KDE app ; open kedit for instance, type any word and highlight it. At that stage you can paste it somewhere. But as soon as you close the kedit instance, you cannot paste it any more... Yek !

Use Klipper.

Use Klipper? That's it? I still experience this bug in KDE 3.5.0. I haven't upgraded to 3.5.1 yet, but I didn't see anything about this in the changelog. What if you have no use for Klipper and its just taking up space?
Comment 3 SED 2006-02-10 10:57:39 UTC
Ok, on further study, I guess this is a feature of X. Is there a way to hide klipper so it persists the klipboard without being on the taskbar?
Comment 4 Lubos Lunak 2006-02-10 11:25:23 UTC
THAT is one of the uses of Klipper (http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/1787). And you can configure the systray to hide some items.

Is there any way around other than using Klipper?
Comment 6 Thiago Macieira 2006-06-27 00:53:36 UTC
Yes: don't quit the application.

I don't want to rant about this, but...

1. If Klipper is such an essential part of the core functionality of the KDE gui, shouldn't it then be included in the core?

2. I stopped using klipper because it annoys the **** out of me and I don't want to clutter the systray, but apparently the completely breaks the basic functionality of an X based system. If this is impossible (why would it be?) at least offer the option of not putting an icon in the systray.
