Description Guido Winkelmann 2004-11-17 17:09:52 UTC
Version:            (using KDE Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources
OS:                Linux

Please provide an option for the Konqueror configuration that will disallow JavaScript code in displayed web pages to alter the status bar contents of the Konqueror window.

There are a number of websites out there that use this possibility in a very annoying fashion, by constantly altering the status bar contents in order to achieve some sort of animation effect.
Not only does this waste computing- and sometimes bandwidth ressources (think Terminal/Server environments), it is also a potential security risk: The status bar is normally, among other things, used as a quick indicator showing where a currently highlighted link leads to. This information can easily be overwritten by the webdesigner with either irrelevant nonsense or another, unsuspicously looking url.

Personally, I don't see any legitimate reason for a web page to want to alter user's browser's status bar at all.

Konqueror->Settings->Configure Konqueror...->Java&JavaScript->JavaScript->Modify status bar text->Ignore.
