Description bruce.lilly 2004-10-28 21:31:36 UTC
Version: 1.7.1 (using KDE 3.3.1, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-7.111-default

A display name using RFC 2047/RFC 2231 (N.B. see also http://www.rfc-editor.org/errata.html) is modified before being added to the address book or placed in messages, without any user alert or opportunity to override unauthorized changes.

For example,
 =?iso-8859-1*de?q?Martin_D=FCrst?=
is changed to
 Martin =?iso-8859-1?q?D=FCrst?=
which breaks up the display name and elides the language tag (which is essential for text-to-speech conversion for the visually impaired). No warning is provided that the entered name is changed, and (infuriatingly) the address book provides no means to display or edit the actual (on-the-wire) text.

Syntactically correct input should not be changed w/o warning or user authorization!

It should be possible for the user to see and change the charset and language tag used (I'd be happy with the ability to edit the raw 2047/2231 text, but for those unfamiliar with the standards some cutesy buttons and lists could be provided).

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
