It would be a good idea to use the same location to store maildir/mbox and a format to store mails. 

Perhaps it can be good to write a standard about storing mail, so every mail client application use the same location/stored place (a freedesktop work).

Anyway I would like to see I can look the ~/Mail folder in evolution searching mail in the ~/Mail directory and Kmail look the .evolution folder so you know if you have recent mails in evolution. Then I would have any trouble using both mail clients, or migrating from evolution to kmail or kmail to evolution.
