Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0) Installed from: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux When I use KFileDialog to quickly select an MPEG file, I often have to wait for the preview process to get going. What happens is that after selecting a MPEG file, my box immediately gets a high workload because the embedded media player is loaded. I can't confirm my selection until the preview process has loaded all it's stuff. Really annoying if you're not interested in any preview. I would suggest waiting one second before starting the preview process, which will make really quick file selection possible. As soon as the user waits longer than one second, we can assume the user isn't in a hurry and load the previewer. Note that the user should not need to wait one second for every single file that is selected, which would be even more annoying than current behavior. Once the preview process is running, every selected file should be previewed instantly, until the KFileDialog is closed.
Moving from "kio/kfile" component to "kfile" product, helps sorting out duplicates.
Not a problem in KDE Framework 5 and after 14 years' worth of hardware improvements!
