Description Kde 2004-10-08 23:53:46 UTC
Version: 1.7.1 (using KDE 3.3.0, SuSE)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-20040930181146-smp

The error messages for connection problems regarding IMAP servers is currently way too cluttered.
While it is nice to have a text in there which tells the user about possible reasons for the connection failure, this information should not be in that window. After all, an error message is about showing the error and not the error + three other things on top of that. It is too overwhelming for users. It sometimes even takes up more space that can fit on a 1024x768 screen vertically!

What should be changed:
- reduce the window to only contain the error message
- implement a help button or some other functionality which upon activating will open the manual/help, showing a page that explains possible resolutions (just move the current help text from the dialog there); after all, that's what a help function should be for
- possibly change the dialog, so that it does not block kmail

Partly implemented, but not when "continue/cancel" is available - please see #86517.

Well, seems to be the same thing, however there is no good description on what should be changed in the other bug tracker.

I find it specially annoying that the dialog blocks kmail. I should be more passive like the current progress bars. What I mean is that if an error occurs I would like to be able to see the bug in a sense that a cross appears somewere but the dialog is only shown if I click it...this or a passive popup that can be clicked :-)

Anyway, voting 20 for this

Hmm... using dIMAP for a long time now and never have seen such a dialog. Probably this has been enhanced in the last five years.
