Description m.wege 2004-10-08 09:50:21 UTC
Version: 1.7 (using KDE 3.3.0, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-12)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8.1-kanotix-5

I would like to see kmail and knode integrate popular forum software. Personally I hate forums, because I have create separate logins, they are slow and so on. But they are more and more necessary. So I would be great if it where more easy to handle.

e.g. the tikiwiki and phpBB have kind of separate email-System with in the forumsoftware. So you receive a private mail, follow a link, login and then you are able to read the mail. That is a waste of time. The kmail integration should make it possible to automaticly recognize, receive and answer private mails with in kmail.
I don`t think that there a so much different forum softwares, so it should be possible. May be for the beginning there should be created the possibility for authors of forum-software to create an integration.

The same goes for the forums itself. I would love to see them integrated within knode or kde. So that they are displayed and handled as if they were news. This would be great for faster and easier handling.
I have know assigned this to kmail, because it seems to belong together. I do not know if it is possible to assign it to knode at the same time or if I have to file it again and assign it to there.

A team of students from an university in Toulouse will attempt to create an Akonadi resource for at least the KDE forum.

This might need some changes on the forum side as well, i.e. machine understandable interface in order not to require hacks like screen scraping.

Is there any progress implementing this?
