Description David Delbecq 2004-10-05 09:46:05 UTC
Version: 3.3 (using KDE 3.3.0, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-12)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-1-686-smp

The file extension choosen for konqueror web archive plugin conflicts with the standard java enterprise .war extension. Java web archive exists since the beginning of java enterprise servers, quite a few years ago. It's a real pain to develop java enterprise application using kde when you have to go quite often in various .war archive to extract or check content. This hurts bad the good integration of kde.

This problem is known since 2002-06-27 (Bug 44431). Yes! More than 27 months ago and still not fixed! Actually not even confirmed!! Come on it is easy to confirm it, simply try to open a java .war with konqueror and you'll see. Don't tell me nobody did find 30 minutes to fix this...

Come on solution is simply to
1) Have konqueror choose another extension to save his web archives (eg *.konq-webarchive)
2) Have konqueror rely on magic numbers to choose to open a .war using either a tar.gz filters or a zip filter (so it remains compatible with previous buggy konqueror web archives)

I submit this as a bug report and not a wish because i consider this conflit as a design bug which can be corrected.

Moreover, Bug 44431 was assigned to Malte Starostik. Can someone check he was noticed of this, because i see no message from him in the Bugtrack messages of Bug 44431?

Thanks for considerations
David Delbecq

Could the type of Bug 44431 be changed from wishlist to bug report (typo) ?

Moreover did file a duplicate because previous report looked abandonned/forgotten/ignored (cf the *** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org *** and lack of response from assigned developper)
