Description Jason Ekstrand 2004-09-30 18:49:41 UTC
Version: Kmix 2.1 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc 3.3.4-r1
OS: Linux

I have recently upgraded to kde 3.3.0, I compiled it on september 28-29 on gentoo linux 2004.2 kernel version: Linux i686 2.6.7-r14 and I have a Microsoft multimedia keyboard. I told kde to set the keyboard to microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard and that worked just fine. The problem is that when I use the volume up and volume down buttons, the volume meter that pops up only has two positions 10% and 0%, and it doesn't affect the volume. It worked perfectly on kde 3.2.3.

I confirm this bug. My keyboard is a "multimedia" Logitech with a wheel as volume control and the volume meter also only has the positions 0% and 10% depending on the direction in which I turn the wheel.

Besides, the MUTE fonction of Kmix only works with the popup menu. The MUTE button of my keyboard let the MUTE status appear but there's no effect.

It worked perfectly with KDE 3.2.2.

Kmix 2.1 (using KDE 3.3.1) (SuSE RPM)

The volume meter is not from KMix. KMix has no volume bar that pops up.
It must be from another application, like kmilo - this is actually very likely, as you speak of special multimedia keyboards. Reassingning to kmilo.

I am running kernel 2.6.11.5 and kde 3.3.1 with the NFORCE drivers from the nvidia site installed.

If I use the snd-intel8x0 drivers, the volume and mute keys on the multimedia keyboard work perfectly (as does the sound)

However, if I use the nvsound drivers (required to get SPDIF working), I get the same issues as detailed above.

This is probably caused by changing the wrong channel. Try the following: update to KDE 3.5.9, set your master channel in kmix and then run:
dcop kded kmilod reconfigure

Please report if it works or not.

I'm experiencing that behaviour on kmix 3.0 from KDE 4.1.2. I've tweaked the master channel from "PCM" to "Front" and kmix keeps on tweaking the PCM volume, even though the visual cue displays the "Front" volume.

I don't know if it is the same bug as this one, though.

This was an old bug in kmilo and should be closed now. greatbunzinni@gmail.com, if you still experience undesired behaviour in KDE 4.5.1, please open a new bug.

KMilo is no longer maintained, marking all bugs accordingly.
