Description Peter Reinhart 2004-09-28 11:35:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

I would like to propose some slight improvements to the default German headlines that are automatically put above a quoted part.

This is what I have in mind:

"Am 25.09.04 15:20:45, schrieb Peter Reinhart <some@some.de>:"
=> "Am 25.09.04_,_ _den_ 15:20:45 _um_ _Uhr_, schrieb Peter Reinhart <some@some.de>:"

"Am Sonntag, 26. September 2004 23:51 schrieben Sie:"
=> "Am Sonntag, _den_ 26. September 2004_,_ _um_ 23:51 _Uhr_ schrieben Sie:"

Just to write "DD.MM.YY HH:MM:SS" is a little too short, I would say.

You can change those phrases yourself:

Settings->Configure KMail->Composer->Phrases.

(Well, that's English. Have no idea what the menus are in German :)

Um, I lied. You cannot change the date format.

You lie again Jan.

Go to Control Center, Regional & Accessibility, Country/Region & Language. On the tab Time & Dates, you can change the Date format to (for example) 'WEEKDAY DD MONTH YYYY'.

This is linked to the %D in the KMail settings.

Yes, I'm aware of these control center settings.

Having done proofreading in German for several years, however, the headline of quoted text looks quite strange to me in German.

The headline
"Am 25.09.04 15:20:45, schrieb Peter Reinhart <some@some.de>:"
for example, just gives a number of numbers in its beginning, without any seperating words.

It would be much more readable if there were a few more words in this line:
"Am 25.09.04_,_ _um_ 15:20:45, schrieb Peter Reinhart <some@some.de>".

Its even worse with the other headline my KMail adds automatically:
"Am Sonntag, 26. September 2004 23:51 schrieben Sie:"

According to German language guidelines, it should rather say
"Am Sonntag, _den_ 26. September 2004_,_ _um_ 23:51 _Uhr_ schrieben Sie:"

In both cases, a few additional words and commas give the text a way better structure and makes it more user friendly.

I know this might not be too easy to implement, but I just want to say how it should be.

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
