Description Malte S. Stretz 2004-09-20 13:03:43 UTC
Version: 1.7 (using KDE 3.3.0, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-gentoo-r3

I set my KMail up according to the "Using OpenPGP and PGP/MIME with KMail >= 1.7" (using Gentoo ebuilds) HOWTO but for some reason checking S/MIME signed messages doesn't work. And what's worse, KMail isn't very helpful to point me into the right direction.

When I select an S/MIME signed message, I get the error message
| Not enough information to check signature. [Details]
| Status: No status information available.

And when I click the "Details" link, a message box pops up and tells me
| The crypto plugin could not be initialized.
| Certificate Manager will terminate now.

Ummm... I guess I'll find out what the error is but KMail should be a lot more helpful in this case and not rely on Google to tell me what I need to know.

This is related to bug 79181 and probably bug 59358 and bug 53641.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
