Version: (using KDE KDE 3.3.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux Hi! The web short cuts for Google are obviously set like the Country which is selected, for example .de for Germany. But for the selection "Switzerland" it is not changed to "www.google.ch". So I tried to change this manually in the Preferences window. Strange is: I was able to set the Google lucky search short cut (ggl) to the Swiss Google page, but when I change the normal google shortcut (gg) it is reset to the German Google after I close the window. I can reproduce it as many times as I like. It is not critical at all, but as Google offers a 'national search', I have to redirect it every time I need it. If you can, try please if you can reproduce it. Thank you very much and have a nice day. (By the way: KDE is great! It works wonderful and since 3.2 much faster!)
Did you change country or language? IMO Google just reads and adopts to the language information in the http header.
I think I found a solution: The International Page google.com correctly adapts to Google.ch and obviously adopts the header info as you said. But if you visit a Google site with a country-TLD like google.de or google.ch always sets the "Search in <Country>" to the specific country in these cases to Germany or Switzerland. (Confirmed with IE 6 and Netscape 7) Exception: Google.us seems to adapt although it is a country-TLD for the United States. The problem would be solved, I believe, if the google Short cut was set per default to google.com. But the problem is that the setting cannot be changed (as described).
I had the same problem. A solution is to delete the original gg entry and make a new one. (Copy paste is possible.) As root this problem doesn't exist.
Yes, I can confirm that this solution works for changing the short cut. Thanks to Adrian Freihofer.
To the adaption of google: To set the gg short cut to google.com per default is not the best solution as you loose the option "Search in <Country>" option. But this is not a Konqueror specific behaviour (Tested with IE as well). It seems like it is necessary to set the Google short cut according to the country setting in KDE control center to "http://www.google.<TLD>/search?q=...". Obviously the Konqueror developers have to save the TLD for each country. Remark: Adrian Freihofers solution does not change the Google Search Bar. This still remains how it is.
