Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.3) Installed from: Mandrake RPMs OS: Linux I'm using KDE at work and sometimes have to connect to home (also KDE, both 3.2.3) using krfb (Desktop Sharing). Unfortunately, working using it is a very unpleasant experience, as writing/typing anything is virtually impossible. I will demonstrate it below: In a shell (konsole): # netstaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat -tppppppppppppppppppn In a browser: wwwwwwwwww.....................................kerneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel.org And so on. This happens when I use Mandrake, Slax, so I assume it's krfb's bug. My keyboard is of course OK (I don't experience this loooooooooong tyyyyyypos when I ssh for example).
I'm experiencing the same problem on KDE 3.2.2 on FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE, (KDE installed from binary packages on FreeBSD installation CDROM). This was an upgrade from KDE 3.1.4 on FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE, (compiled from CVS downloaded ports). The problem did not occur on the old installation. It affects all keyboard input, but not mouse. Normal touch typing produces long strings of repeated characters, and pasting clipboard text using ctrl-v repeats the data. This is particularly troublesome when pressing enter in a console which repeats dozens of times before returning the prompt. This problem occurs when using a TightVNC 1.2.6 client from a Windows XP laptop, as well as from another FreeBSD 4.10 box. It also happens when using the KDE Remote Desktop Connection client. I reversed the connection between the two FreeBSD boxes with the same problem. Also, using either KDE or TightVNC client when connecting to a Windows TightVNC server works fine.
Evidently, this problem relates to the keyboard repeat settings. The KDE 3.2.2 keyboard repeat defaults are: Delay: 250 msec Rate: 30/s By adjusting the delay to 750 msec on the krfb host machine, (in KDE Conrol Center), the problem went away. I'm not sure if this is a krfb problem, or some other kdebase issue... This work around solution wouldn't be practical if there are many host machines that need changing, or if this delay setting is unacceptable to users directly using an attached keyboard. It works for occasional remote admin though.
