Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1) Installed from: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Hi It would be nice if there were an easy way to choose the default protocol to use for a specific metacontact. For example there could be such a dialog entry somewhere in the properties dialog of a metacontact and additionally the possibility to set the default protocol by changing the order of the protocol icons next to the contact's name with a simple drag'n'drop. I hope it's clear what I mean.
You can already select the global default account by moving account up/down in the account configuration page.

They work perfectly fine, the algortime uses 1) the online status 2) the account importance to know to what contact to speak. But that's true a per contact preference would be fine
Those arrows don't seem to work for me. I've got a friend with a jabber and an ICQ account. When I'm sending an offline message, the protocol used is determined by the order of the icons next to the name and not by the account importance. Therefore it would be nice to modify kopete to really use the given algorithm or to allow for easy setting of the default protocol. BTW, a tooltip explaining the (intended) meaning of the up/down arrows would be appropriate...
arrows works. (and i just added tooltip and "whatsthis" help)
It should be a "per metacontact" setting. The correct beahvior should be to let me decide which IM to use for every metcontact. Suppose I have friend A and friend B using MSN and ICQ. A prefers/checks MSN and B prefers ICQ: I should be able to set MSN default for A, and ICQ default for B. Please reopen Regards
Reopened and retitled to better reflect what the bug wants.
For accessibility reasons, we ought to have this in the contact properties, not just via drag-n-drop. Perhaps with a checkbox, "Override contact preference order" or something (since I want Jabber first and test accounts last, and I don't want to have to manually reorder all my metacontacts when this change comes in). When the checkbox isn't checked, the order of contacts within a metacontact should visually follow the global settings (ie the contact icons should be reordered automatically rather than being essentially in a random order).
I have kde 3.3.2 and the global priority doesn't work as advertised. I have accounts with yahoo, msn and aim and contacts that have all of those. Whatever order I choose in the account configuration panel, I always start sending using the yahoo protocol.

in 3.5.8 account priority does not work either. ICQ has highest priority, msn lowest (is on the bottom of the list) I have a metacontact who uses MSN and ICQ. Most of the time, kopete uses msn to talk to him even though he is online with both accounts. Also sometimes ICQ is used.
In Kopete-kde4.1 I can't control the protocol priority at all! Neither globally nor per contact! In the configuration dialog there is no up/down buttons and I can't rearrange icons for individual contacts. So if contact is offline, jabber chat window will open on double-click no matter what I do. I use kopete from KUbuntu packages. Kopete - 0.50.80; Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-20-generic; gcc Version: 4:4.1.0-0ubuntu1~hardy1~ppa2
interestingly kaddressbook allows you to select a default protocol. as integration with kaddressbook improves perhaps that could be used.

Maybe better to tune-up per-contact priority for each metacontact? So, for one contact I preffer to chat via jabber, but for other - via icq. And setup the level in which kopete ignore online status. For example, if importance of one contact more than 10, kopete always use contact without looking the online status, but if less than 10, it prefer online status and after that - contact importance.
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
