Description Jakob Petsovits 2004-06-17 09:51:54 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.2.3 gentoo version with -r4 patch
OS: Linux

I was thinking about adding just a small checkbox to the "Customize pppd Arguments..." dialog of each Account. It could be named "Use only these arguments" and would suppress any of the KPPP Account settings (which, for example, could be set inactive so the user notices that they have no effect when the checkbox is activated). So, if I add "call isp" to the customized arguments list and activate "Use only these arguments", pppd would only be started with "pppd call isp" and no arguments that would normally be added by KPPP. This would not affect all accounts because it just refers to one of them.

This option could solve Bug #63917 as well as it would provide the ADSL / cable functionality that Bug #35453 is asking for, if only at command line level. All of pppd's connection facilities would be made available that way. Of course, the information shown in the System Tray can't be that extensive then, at least the connection speed must probably be omitted. Nevertheless, I think this could be a rather good workaround for all these "pppd can do it, KPPP can't" wishlist items. Hope it's not that hard to implement.

This project is unfortunately no longer maintained.

If a new maintainer wants to step up and take care, the project is archived here:

https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kppp

You can just clone it in your private namespace on invent.kde.org and if you have started to work on it and fixed/implemented something get it reviewed and the project unarchived.

Sorry for the inconveniences.
