Description Ross Boylan 2004-05-27 21:35:43 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Newsgroup account settings, on the "Identity" tab, provides a Mail-Copies-To field. My expectation is that this field means that when I post to the group, copies of my postings will be mailed to the indicated addresses.

This is consistent with the help documentation, which says
  Mail-Copies-To
If you enter an email address here, every article will be sent to the usenet and to this email address.

However, this is not the behavior. When I post, either to a moderated or unmoderated group, I get no copy of the message. My system reports no attempted mail activity (I have mail configured in KNode to use localhost:25).

When I reply to a message I have posted in this way, I get a pop up saying the poster has requested an email copy of the reply. And an email copy is sent (which I think shows the mail setup is OK), along with the usenet post.

Both features are valuable, but the current combination of behavior and documenation isn't quite right.

I would prefer that Mail-Copies-To behaves as documented (since that is what I expect from the name). A "new" feature, with a name like Request-Mail-Replies-To, would be nice too. I put "new" in quotes, because this appears to be the only functionality currently implemented.

Thanks for the program.

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
