Version: 0.8.2 (using KDE 3.2.2, (testing/unstable)) Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (Debian 20040401) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.6-1-k7 Very low priority, but the MSN 6 official client allows you to display a custom picture behind the chat window. Would be nice to replicate this behaviour.
I'm personaly not in favour of this.
Forgot to mention, but it is a custom picture that you send to your other contacts.
Why should someone else be able to decide what the background of your own chat looks like? How do they even know the text would be visible against it? Seems quite foolish to me.
First of all, speaking of MSN-only issues, it is much less important to support this than the new file transfer protocol or webcams. I opened this bug only to mark that this feature was missing. I know it is usually Kopete's policy not to endorse things such as GUI skins, which is usually a good thing, but as this feature is used to convey personal info to other people (like buddy icons), I think it should eventually (if there are no more pressing problems to solve) be supported. About the text visibility issue, as the picture is faded, it is usually not a problem. However, a simple way to solve this without having to modify the interface is simply to provide alongside the buddy icon in the GUI a wallpaper icon working in the same way. You can then get the personal data (the wallpaper) without damaging usability (by using it to skin your interface)
To enable this feature, we would first need to enable the API feature to set the background of the chat area to an image. I do not object to this ( in fact, such a thing should be in the user prefs alongside the transparancy stuff IMO, after all both Konsole and Konqueror have simmilar options).
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
