Description Helge Hielscher 2004-04-29 16:15:19 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs

Quanta should use the same shortcuts for tabs as konqueror for keeping consistency.
Comment 1 András Manţia 2004-04-29 16:21:16 UTC
For switching tabs? And what about being consistent with Konsole,
KDevelop, Kate... This is something which is hard to solve. We were
always using ALT-Left/Right Arrow. So those KDevelop (our "closest
neigbour") and Kate. Konsole uses Shift-Arrows (out of question, as
that one is used to select text), Konqueror uses Ctrl-[ and Ctrl-]
which was chosen because all the other shortcuts were already occupied.

So which application is not consistent now? There are 3 using the same
shortcuts as Quanta and more will come (every app using the KMDI
library to do multiple document management).

Well, for me Konqueror is the main application that comes with the desktop itself, everyone is using it. I have filled the bug because Ctrl-W didnt work (the shortcut Ctrl-F4 is not very convenient for frequent use unless you have very large hands).

But I agree that this bug has to be solved at a higher level. I do not know where it belongs, maybe kdelibs?

Helge

Hi,

Ctrl-W should work in CVS HEAD, as it's the default in Quanta now.
Regarding the other issue, I don't know where should it go. You may try
to fill a bugreport to kdelibs requesting a common way to handle tabs
in every KDE application, maybe someone will know where to implement
it.
