Description Stéphane Magnenat 2004-04-25 21:35:56 UTC
Version: 0.20 (using KDE 3.2.2, (testing/unstable))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.3 (Debian 20040401)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.5-1-686

It would be very cool if kghostview (but also kpdf) could have an option that let the user click on a word to get its definition, for instance through kdict or any other kde-ish dictionnary/encyclopedie interface. I'm aware that this require being able to handle word as atomic so prior to this, things like searching text should probably be implemented.

Anyway it would be very cool, especially if the usage is light, clean, fast and nice. For instance, clicking on a word that has a definition (perhaps thoses could be slightly underlined, not too aggressively, just to show they have a definition attached) could raise a windows with a summary (for instance only one dict, not all the available one) and a "More" button that opens, for instance, kdict. For the sake of speed and network independance a dependency to dictd could be an option.

I'm sure you have lot of things to do, but I had to talk about this idea because it can be very usefull for education, especially if KDE get's embedded in next generations e-books (that should appear someday... eventually).

Thanks for reading me ;-)

Stephane

Very interesting, added on my TODO list. You maybe get it soon :-)

Moving to Okular.

By the way, this is already possible for online dictionaries if you use web shortcuts.
