Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.2) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages This wishlist item applies to both kmail and kio_smtp. Please duplicate as appropriate. KDE Bug #77058 highlights the fact that not all mail servers support the 8BITMIME capability, even though they themselves are 8-bit clean. I suggest adding the following options to KMail's Settings >> Configure KMail, Network, Sending tab, Message Property field: * Add a "Force 8-bit" option; this should override kio_smtp's code for selecting or not selecting 8-bit mode. Appropriate warnings should be present in the KMail handbook. * Change "Allow 8-bit" to try 8-bit mode (by checking for 8BITMIME) and, if that fails, to automatically re-encode the mail to quoted-printable or base64 and send. * Make "MIME Compliant" to always send in quoted-printable or base64 mode, even if the mail server supports 8BITMIME. If the KMail/kio_smtp maintainers are agreeable, I can probably hack up some code. I don't want to do the work only to find the concept is not acceptable! I suggest something like this is rather urgently required, perhaps even for KDE 3.2.3 (the current situation is not really appropriate).
Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented. Thank you for your understanding.
Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
