Description micah villmow 2004-04-16 07:18:54 UTC
Version: 3.2 (using KDE KDE 3.2.0)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs

Many people, including myself, use KDE in multiple languages. However, typing in multiple languages is very bothersome and doesn't work most of the time. Gnome 2.0+ has had multiple input methods by right clicking on a text box and selecting it. Windows and Mac also both have it by installing the IM's for that specific language. For KDE to catch the multi-language users, they need to allow for multiple input methods to work seamlessly, either through kwin integration(sorta like gnome), or a 'official' kde application that lets the user select the language he wishes to use after installing the i18n for that language(like mac/win). Its been a pain to use more than 1 IM at a time since I started using KDE at 1.0, and it involves modifying text files. This should be possible with no text file modifications, just the selection of a option.

Yay! i've been painfully using Korean, Japanese, and English in kde since 2.x.
Can't wait for it to be working correctly :)

Isn't this problem be solved since a couple of years? Shouldn't we close this report?

@Micah: could you try the new KDE 3.5.9 and KDE 4. I'm not expert about multiple input methods.

A feedback is really appreciated :-)

Thanks :)

Please, would you like to check the bug using a more recent KDE version like 4.3 or trunk?

Many thanks.
