Description Dik Takken 2004-04-13 17:31:35 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.2.1)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
OS: Linux

When I send a message containing a large attachment, I can close kmail and kmail will continue sending mail in the background. No problem here. But when I log out of KDE, the upload is aborted without *notifying me*. Not very nice.

I have two whishes:

1. When there is no open KMail window, and kmail is finished doing stuff in the background, notify the user.

2. When the user attempts to log-out and KMail is still busy in the background, display a dialog like this:

"KMail is still busy sending mail messages in the background. You can either wait or log-out now. If you log-out now, KMail will stop and try again next time you use KMail. What do you want to do? [Wait (default) / Logout]"

My wife just had this problem too - she closed the computer after sending an urgent mail, and discovered the day after that the mail hadn't been sent.
KMail should indeed warn when it's being closed (by the user or by session management) and there are still mails in the outbox; users shouldn't have to monitor the outbox to make sure mails have been sent.

I'm raising this to a bug since it leads to mail not being sent in time.
It's too late for 3.4 though (new string and all).

I think KMail should not do anything in the background. When I am about to quit THEN Kmail should warn me.

This applies to fetching mail too, I've just quit KMail while doing so -- no warnings!

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.
